About
I have been in the field of photography for approximately 15 years. As someone with a double-major in both journalism and advertising, photography has been an integral part of my professional life. Not so coincidentally, photography has also been a hobby for more than 20 years.
I was drawn to music (a guitar player for 23 years and a drummer for 12) and photography initially because of their ability to express emotion far better than the English language. The ability to tell stories skillfully often transcends the use of English (or any written language). Years of age have taught me life is about stories: some good, some bad, some great and some disheartening. But, a life without stories is a life not lived.
My equipment is predominantly (and personally, exclusively) Canon gear. The company for which I work owns Nikon, and I have several years behind the Nikkor glass. While obviously more of a personal preference than anything, I feel the Nikon digital sensors and processors skew more towards the blue end of the light spectrum, whereas Canon leans more to the red. I prefer the way Canon processes images in that fashion, and have been a Canon user mostly as such.
My first Canon bodies were a 35mm Rebel followed by a substantial upgrade to the Canon A2E with it’s infrared eye focusing reader in the viewfinder. That particular body I do miss, but certainly not the expense of Fuji Velvia slide film and lab processing. My current camera is a Canon EOS 40D with several lenses (the 50mm 1.8 prime lens is a particular favorite) and vertical grip. For the record, my camera at work is a Nikon D50. The Canon far outshines this body (as is expected — the current Nikon equivalent would likely be a D300).
I must thank my wife for re-kindling my love of photography.
